THE 5 STEPS
GET THE GEAR
GET THE TRAINING
GET THE FORECAST
GET THE PICTURE
GET OUT OF HARMS WAY
STEP 1 - THE GEAR
Antelope Butte has ten (10) transceivers and probe poles that you can check out from ski patrol if you do not have your own to practice. The gear is only to be used in the beacon park training area, and must be returned to the ski patrol aid room no later then 30 minutes prior to mountain closing
DIGGING IS NOT PERMITTED IN THE BEACON PARK TRAINING AREA
If you would like to purchase your own gear, CLICK HERE, or find a local dealer HERE
STEP 2 - THE TRAINING
After you checked out or bought gear, make sure to get the practice necessary to know how to use it in a life or death situation
Click the button below for various free training videos
STEP 3 - THE FORECAST
Knowing the weather conditions for any outdoor recreational activity is important, so in addition to knowing your local forecast, also make sure to know current AVALANCHE CONDITIONS
STEP 4 - THE PICTURE
Don’t simply take the forecast’s word for it, be aware of your surrounding conditions and hazards, know your group, test the slopes, and trust your intuition. It is YOUR responsibility as a backcountry user to evaluate avalanche conditions and make decisions accordingly
STEP 5 - AVOID HARM
Reduce exposure, maintain communication, and only allow one person on “suspect” slopes at a time
